Here we go again!

Microsoft admits Vista failure
This is classic abusive monopoly behavior, Microsoft wrote the modern book on it. It pulled all the major OEMs in by twisting their arms with the usual methods, and they again all fell into line. Never before has anyone backpedalled on this, to do so would earn you the wrath of Microsoft.

But Dell just did. This means that Me II sales are at least as bad as we think, the software and driver situation is just as miserable, and Dell had no choice but to buck the trend. If anyone thinks this is an act of atonement for foisting such a steaming pile on us, think again, it doesn't care about the consumer.

One thing I can't understand, is the main issue is lack of device drivers, right?

Why the hell can't they just copy all the device drivers over from XP and put them in Vista? is there some sort of OS incompatibility they've created between XP and Vista?  Although I've had my MicroSoft problems, XP plug and plays like no other Microsoft OS ever has. I've plugged in devices that were developed years after my copy of XP was installed and they work without even installing additional drivers.

My first thought about Vista was that it was unnecessary. I can't think of much more I need from my OS or installed software. All of the innovation need to occur in web software.

Microsoft needs to compete with Google, not with itself.

Compatibility... They changed the system structure on the low levels code, so the old drivers will work incorrectly or won't work at all...

Their main issue is that each later system inherits system misconsitences and project mistakes from the previous versions. Microsoft came to the point where the only possible way to go on is to design windows from the level 0.

Just a few days ago I had a little experience comparing MS Access, MySql, Oracle 10g and MS SQL Server... After few hot and orgastic days with Oracle I began to like Microsoft...

Yeah, I've always thought the "get away from Microsoft crowd" was missing a few points. I tried to use an Apple computer at the computer lab that was closer to my apartment when I was in school. After about 3 hours of trying to figure out how to make it work, I walked across campus to the lab with PC's. I can't even imagine how much worse the experience with Linux would be. I don't know because I tried to install it on an older computer of mine, and couldn't figure out how.

I think the Microsoft monopoly needs to be watched, but its also done a lot of good to creating the standard platform. The discipline of monopoly has helped everything work together. If not for Microsoft, I'd probably be trying to figure out how to make my modem on my Commodore 64 talk to the modem on your Apple IIe.

I kinda figured. It kind of seems like they could keep a "translator" or a piece of XP to ease the transition. I don't know a hell of a lot about programming, so I'll leave it there. (was going to make an analogy about Win95/98 and DOS, but nah, I don't know what I'm talking about)

Some kinds of Linux don't even need to be installed - Knoppix just boots off the CD

My copy of XP didn't even have to be installed, it was on my computer when I bought it. Beat that for convenience.
