Riots flare for sixth night outside Paris
Quote:
| Violence has erupted for a sixth night in the troubled suburbs northeast of Paris, with police firing rubber bullets and tear gas as they faced down gangs of youths in Aulnay-sous-Bois.
A store was set on fire in the nearby suburb of Bondy, France-Info radio reported on Tuesday.
No trouble was immediately reported in Clichy-sous-Bois, where rioting began on Thursday after the accidental deaths of two teenagers.
An Associated Press Television news team reported confrontations between about 20 police and 40 youths in Aulnay-sous-Bois, with police firing tear gas and rubber bullets.
Clashes
Youths lobbed Molotov cocktails at an annex to the town hall and threw stones at the firehouse. It was not known whether the clashes led to injuries.
Four people were arrested for throwing stones at police in Bondy where 14 cars were burned, the prefecture said. A fire engulfed a carpet store, but it was not known whether the blaze was linked to the suburban unrest.
Officials gave an initial count of 69 vehicles torched in nine suburbs across the Seine-Saint-Denis region that arcs around Paris on the north and northeast. The area, home mainly to families of immigrant origin, most of them from Muslim North Africa, is marked by soaring unemployment and delinquency.
Officials said "small, very mobile gangs" were harassing police and setting fires to garbage cans and vehicles throughout the region.
France-Info said about 150 fires were burning in suburbs of the Seine-Saint-Denis region.
Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy - blamed by many for fanning the violence with tough talk and harsh tactics - met in Paris with youths and officials from Clichy-sous-Bois in an effort to end days of rioting. But the unrest spread even as they met. |

| Almost 2 million French citizens are living in newly created urban ghettos in an environment characterised by anti-French feeling, racial hatred and the oppression of women, according to a French intelligence agency report leaked yesterday.
The report, parts of which were published in Le Monde, concluded that approximately 1.8 million people across France were living in places which were either "already ghettos or on the way to becoming them". |

Riots put French government under pressure
Thu Nov 3, 2005 12:41 AM GMT
PARIS (Reuters) - Violence broke out in Paris suburbs for the seventh night running overnight on Thursday, compounding pressure on Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin's government to act quickly to restore order.
Youths went on the rampage in nine areas in poor suburbs ringing the French capital to the north and the east, setting alight about 40 cars, two buses, and dustbins, as well as causing damage to at least one school and a shopping centre.
Hundreds of police were deployed to control the disturbances, with some units diverted from a soccer match.
One trade union representing policemen described the unrest as a "civil war" and called on Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy to impose a curfew in areas which have been affected by the violence to ensure the violence did not spiral out of control.
Unrest was first sparked in Clichy-sous-Bois last week after two teenagers were electrocuted while apparently fleeing police during a local disturbance, and it has since spread to other areas in the Parisian suburbs.
Dramatic pictures of burning vehicles have grabbed headlines and forced the unrest to the top of the government's agenda. In response, Villepin cancelled a trip to Canada on Wednesday and promised he would mobilise the government to tackle the unrest.
Media attention on the disturbances has been all the more intense as they have highlighted the bitter rivalry between Villepin and Sarkozy ahead of 2007 presidential elections, particularly after Sarkozy called the protesting youths "scum".
Equal Opportunities Minister Azouz Begag has openly criticised Sarkozy while Villepin took a calculated swipe on Wednesday at the strong language used by the interior minister when he stressed the need to avoid stigmatising such areas.
The opposition has seized on such signs of discord and accused the government of drift and of failing to tackle the underlying reasons for the riots.
The unrest in the northern and eastern suburbs, heavily populated by North African and black African minorities, have been fuelled by frustration among youths in the area over their failure to get jobs and recognition in French society.
In the aftermath of Sarkozy's comment, the government has been battling to strike a balance between the need to enforce law and order and show it is understanding of the problems facing minority and underprivileged communities.
Government spokesman Jean-Francois Cope reiterated the need for mutual respect in an interview broadcast on France 3 television and said Villepin would on Thursday meet representatives from the suburbs affected by the violence.

Wow, maybe I shouldn't paint French citizens with such a broad brush. There's at least 2 million people over there that I might get along with.

You can share your experience how to stop the mass riots... Just to put curfew and order to to shoot everyone who on the street with a stick tonight... Like it was in New Orleans...

Um... in the United States, US media is a major source... and I'm PRETTY sure Headrock was talking about US media, otherwise why would he link European media sources and then say that the media isn't covering it?
Scratch that... since you all are "Experts" on what propaganda our media feeds us, I assume that US media is ALSO major player in Europe, etc... either that, or you're talking out of your collective asses.

I heard it on NPR, with even... get this... a quote by a French minister that said, "The French system is failing"! On NPR!!? You'd THINK Fox News would at least be all over it... but maybe nobody gives a crap about the French?

Ive seen it sporadically but you would think EIGHT days of Muslim rioting would be all over CNN,Fox,MSNBC,BBC,Yahoo News,Rueters, the NY Times,or most major media sources......
But the truth will make the multicultural fools have to admit the truth.....

And this is the tip of the iceburg.......How long before a whiny Europe needs America to save its useless asses again??And its not far off.....
Odin sees what happening to his country..Somehow they are now starting to tolerate intolerance......And that is the fatal flaw of multiculturalism...Now we have to see how long the loons will hold on to their pipe dream.......
